Before Kevin began his business ventures in the fishing world, he graduated from Michigan State University on a full ride scholarship for hockey, where he graduated with a bachelor of Science in Business and Kinesiology, He was a 3rd round draft pick to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2001 and signed with them in 2005 continuing on to play hockey at a professional level in North America and Europe. Surviving a plane crash in 2009, the time off and hockey injuries eventually caught up with him and ended his career in California in 2013 after multiple surgeries.
Since creating Sturgeon Slayers, they have been featured on international television networks such as National Geographic, BBC, Wild TV, Global, Channel 5 and many more. Thus, building an international reputation for professional guided fishing in B.C. While filming King Fishers on Nat Geo they hooked and landed the largest Sturgeon ever on TV and a top 10 largest fish in the Tagging program, measuring 10’5 forth length with a massive 65″ pectoral girth, this monster was untagged as well.
Kevin is a leader in conservation through the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society tagging program. Sturgeon are strictly catch and release only on the famed Fraser River where Sturgeon Slayers operates. Along with TV appearances, Kevin is a published writer, Board of Directors for FRSCS, Director for FVAGA, Producer for the Fly Fishing Film Tour Canada, is involved in high level meeting for various fisheries in BC, and gives seminars on the importance of handling and conservation of Sturgeon.
