Kevin Estrada

Guiding you through the stunning Fraser River Canyon is professional guide and owner of Sturgeon Slayers, Kevin Estrada. Prior to becoming one of the most respected sturgeon guides in British Columbia, Kevin graduated from Michigan State University and was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes. After enjoying a strong professional hockey career, Kevin found himself back on his home waters, the might Fraser River. Since then, Kevin has dedicated his time to developing Sturgeon Slayers into one of BC’s premier sturgeon fishing operations.

Kevin served on the Board of Directors for the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society for 4 years and was the 2015 award winner for Leadership.

In 2018, with 60K + signatures, Kevin brought forth the first ever bill on sturgeon to the House of Commons in Ottawa that called for transitioning from gill nets to sustainable harvesting techniques that will reduce impacts on Sturgeon. Further to this bill, Kevin was mentioned by MP Fin Donnelly in his farewell speech, alongside a list of world and community leaders, as a privilege to meet and work with in his career.

The former professional hockey player helped start the Ladd Foundation Sturgeon Charity Event with former teammate Andrew Ladd. Some of the top NHL players attend, with guests from around the world, to raise money for various causes with partial proceeds going back to support Sturgeon.

Kevin and his partner Mariko Izumi have made their home in the Fraser Valley with their wild and adventurous daughter and son.

Since she started with WFN in 2007, she has presented a web series on the current events of the fishing industry, hosted her own travel / fishing / adventure series for 6 seasons, been used extensively as the face and voice of the network in promos and station IDs, and built an extensive network of fans through the powerful resources on Instagram & Facebook.

Mariko brings her daughter, Yale, and her son, Tiger, with her everywhere she goes, immersing them in the family’s strong roots in fishing, travel, and business.

Jay Gibson

Many of our guests over the past 8 + years have been guided by Jay. Born and raised in the Fraser Valley, Jay has been fishing local rivers, lakes and tributaries most of his life and has been a professional guide on the Fraser for the past 14 years. He has consistently worked hard to put all his guests into opportunities to connect with these incredible fish, while being an ambassador in conservation for the future of the fishery.

Jay is part of the small group that guide’s for the Ladd Foundation Sturgeon Fishing Charity event each year. The event raises money for mental health and sturgeon conservation. He is also a member of the Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association which advocates for sustainable tourism in BC.

When he’s not guiding you can find Jay spending time outdoors with the family where they reside on Harrison Lake, boating, hiking, and snowboarding through the winter.
