Best Sturgeon Angling Gear
I get a lot of questions through social media about what we use on the water. As technology and gear advances and changes, we are constantly testing our tried and true against the last innovation.
While imaging doesn’t make the fish bite, it’s helpful to know the Sturgeon Habitat you are fishing and what’s around. Unquestionably, we use Lowrance. We have used almost all the other companies over the years and we have gone back to Lowrance. We use 2, 12” HDS live units with ActiveTarget live sonar with the 3 in 1 transducer. Some of you may have seen some of the Sturgeon imaging we posted online during the testing phase, it was jaw-dropping for me to see what happens below the water in such great resolution. The interface is easy to navigate and the unit is beautifully designed. Many of our guests after seeing the unit in action, have gone on to purchase. Catching fish helps with marketing I guess :) Thanks go to Steve and Wayne from Lowrance for getting us set up in the best way possible for our guests.
These fish are the largest freshwater fish in North America and so you cannot go cheap anywhere on your gear. There is no product like Burnewiin on the market today. They are rock solid and give us confidence while fishing. You will never have to worry about feeling like there is a chance your Rod and reel can go in the water again.
We switched last year to Accurate reels and have been very pleased with their smooth drag and line capacity and overall look. Made in the USA you are getting quality components, without the downgrading components coming from overseas. We have experienced this in the past and it’s not fun when you have a lifetime fish on and then realize afterward that certain parts in the reel have been changed to save money!
Custom Rods
Our rods are custom-made locally and significantly surpass the performance from mass-produced ones. We can offer you the same rods. If you want to purchase them contact us here.
The kicker is used every day to keep us straight while anchored on the water. Not blowing around on the water and to adjust against the current is important for a high success rate while Sturgeon fishing. In case of an emergency it is crucial to have a back up motor and the pro kicker 9.9 is our safety line. Safety above all is the most important and Mercury motors provides us and our guests with that reassurance.
We use 2 Yeti coolers onboard. We have a 125 at the back for bait and a roadie 24 for drinks and food. Our Yeti drinkware is ideal for the hot summers and cooler fall fishing. Everyone knows the durability of their products, we are hard on our gear in this year-round multi-seasonal conditions. They truly are built for the extreme wilderness of British Columbia. By now most of you have seen the blue handles in stores. That is Cuda. Knifes, scissors, pliers, and others tools is what you will find on our boat. They have something for all fisheries. They have been working with professionals around the world to beat up their products and give feedback and it’s worked. They have won many awards at icast each year and have become known as the choice for guides. If you don’t have their products for your fishery yet, we recommend you check out their website for what can be useful for your backyard.
